History I collected this 1989 Toyota Supra 2.0 GT Twin Turbo on 27th April 2001, it is a non-runner due to a major electrical failure, and has been stood up for almost 1 year. I had to hire a towing dolly, and persuade a friend to help me tow it home. ( approx 150 miles )
Fault Engine will occasionally start, and then will only run for 1 to 2 seconds before cutting out.
Tests Ignition spark - Spark fat and strong after HT lead replaced.
Fuel pump - pump working well.
Air Flow Meter - Unplugged AFM and ran engine, gave same fault as when plugged in. AFM swapped for similar AFM from 3.0i supra, which made no difference to the fault. 2.0i TT AFM tested on 3.0i engine and found to run acceptably.
Oxygen Sensor - Upon disconnection of O2 sensor, the car will run nicely until it starts to warm up, then gets lumpy and eventually stops (I guess the ECU needs to trim the air/fuel ratio with info from the sensor). I changed the O2 sensor, but the car still won`t run.
Diagnostic Code - The Toyota TCCS (Engine Management) will show a diagnostic fault code to tell of any detected faults. No code is showing up.
Suspect ECU faulty.
Repairs New 100 Amp fusible link fitted. Main HT lead replaced when original fell to pieces upon testing. New distributor cap fitted. Bonnet support strut replaced.
